Music Ministry

Our music ministry is led by Ed Varnes, who has been our Minister of Music since 1999. Bro Ed was called into the music ministry in 1995. He studied and received his MA from Luther Rice Seminary. Bro Ed constantly challenges those involved in the music ministry to stretch their capabilities and reach beyond their comfort zone to be the most effective witness for the Lord through our music. This is exhibited by the dedication and enthusiasm he brings weekly to our worship services and musical and drama presentations performed by the choir throughout the year. At Southpoint, we believe that music is an important part of worship, and that it prepares the heart to receive the spoken Word.

 

Adult Choir

We are blessed to have many gifted musicians who dedicate themselves to our music ministry. If you desire to be a part of a loving choir family, there are many opportunities of service here for you! Our adult choir is comprised of 50+ voices and the choir sings in the 11:00 am and 6:00 pm Sunday worship services. Congregational singing is a blended format of the traditional hymns of the faith, coupled with praise choruses. Within our music ministry we have numerous soloists, trios and quartets who sing for our worship services. Accompaniment is by piano, organ or soundtrack. Choir rehearsal is 4:30 pm Sunday afternoon prior to the evening service.

 

POP (Point of Praise) Band

In addition, there is the Southpoint Point of Praise band, or “POP”, is a music/drama team comprised of talented women and men, both young and old.  It’s purpose is to incorporate Christian contemporary music into the Wednesday evening activities as well as Sunday morning praise during our Bible Study hour at 9:45 and special Sunday Morning Worship music. POP consists of keyboard, percussion, guitars, bass and other musical accompaniment. For more information on POP, see our youth department section.
